Joan has more than 25 years of practice experience as a lawyer. She is bilingual in English and Chinese, and also speaks the Hokkien, Teochew and Cantonese dialects. She was a partner at an established law firm for more than 20 years before forming LEGAL OPTIONS LLC in April 2012. She has been involved in land transactions, Landlord and Tenant disputes, civil litigation and dispute resolution, advising clients on business and commercial matters, as well as probate and family law matters.
Having worked for 2 years after graduation in a production house in the creative industry has allowed her to gain insights to consider matters viewed from the client’s perspective, and offer solutions which are not just legally sound but also commercially viable.
With her wide-ranging professional experience, Joan appreciates the many issues that affect each of us and our concern for wealth creation, wealth preservation and succession planning. She has worked with many estate planners from various organisations. She believes in helping her clients generate options for their legal concerns by drawing on her wealth of experience. In addition to her legal work, Joan is a volunteer lawyer with Wicare Widows Support Group and the Catholic Lawyers Guild conducting free legal clinics.
She is an Associate Mediator & Family Panel Member with the Singapore Mediation Centre. She has been appointed by the State Courts as a Volunteer Mediator and is also on the Community Justice Centre Panel of Primary Justice Lawyers.
